SUNNY SOUTHEND BECKONS BRAZILIAN

Chelsea warmed up for next Sunday’s Premiership clash with Manchester United with a 1 – 1 draw with Championship side Southend.

Although Chelsea led the goal opportunity stats quite significantly Southend managed to score one of their two chances late into the game.

Chelsea seem to be susceptible to set pieces at the moment with Southend’s Peter Clarke heading in from a long throw.

During the game Chelsea went close on a couple of occasions with Drogba and Belletti probably having the best opportunities.

The Chelsea goal came from Kalou on the half hour when he rose unchallenged to head in Frank Lampard’s corner.

The replay is at Roots Hall, Southend on the 14th of January.

Chelsea: Cudicini, Ferreira, Carvalho, Ivanovic, Ashley Cole, Belletti, Lampard, Mikel, Joe Cole (Di Santo 84), Kalou (Sinclair 87), Drogba.
Subs Not Used: Hilario, Mineiro, Anelka, Mancienne, Sawyer.

Booked: Mikel, Carvalho.
