Delfouneso was well shepherded throughout and eventually sub’d off. Strickland was outpaced by Weimann for the first but did well later in the same match-up. Villa’s crossing was testing throughout with Taylor forced to punch away frequently while all our set-pieces barely got the ball off the ground. Villa’s back-line was very big and experienced and Borini got no change out of any of them (nor did Mitrovic, though better). Kakuta played a strangely withdrawn position but showed good touches and decent passing. Clifford was a little bit over-awed and nowhere near as good as he is in the youth. The defence was pretty decent – much better than last season. McEachran and Mellis a bit in and out through the game, but some good moves.
