Benitez to start with Ba?

One finalist will already be confirmed by the time Chelsea kick off at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday evening, with the League Cup looking more and more like our best chance of coming out of this topsy turvy campaign with silverware.

The win against Arsenal went a long way to consolidate our third place position in the Barclays Premier League, but with the Manchester Clubs drawing further and further away from the pack, the two domestic trophies and Europa League accolade will surely be important regarded a little higher than the fat cats at the club had envisaged at the beginning of our season.

But first, we will have to overcome a two-goal deficit of our own making. Two sloppy goals conceded at the Bridge have made the task of reaching Wembley this season a tall task, especially at a ground we have struggled to make great strides in recent years, a late equaliser courtesy of a dodgy Jose Bosingwa cross last season, and conceding a late equaliser this.

After another powder puff performance against the Arse on Sunday, most would expect a fresh and ready Demba Ba to get given the nod ahead of Fernando Torres.

Michu, as we all know now, must be shackled. The bargain of the season is in fine form and has scored for fun this season, not unlike Ba. With John Obi Mikel away on African Cup of Nation duty (the Nigerian played 90 minutes in a 1-1 with Burkina Faso yesterday), Benitez must decide whether he will stick or twist with the deep lying duo that worked to such effect at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Lamps and Ramires.

David Luiz is expected to recover, and the Blues’ could welcome the return of Captain John Terry, whom can knock a few heads together in a game that is vital we keep a clean sheet if we are to stand a chance of outscoring the Swans. That could see the dynamic defender come midfielder step up into the more creative role in front of the back four with his range of passing and creativity.

As success as before second nature at the Bridge in recent years, the profile of the League Cup has slipped into obscurity in many fan’s mind. But success breeds success, and getting to a domestic final can only have positive effects for the rest of the campaign and whatever it may bring.

We aren’t a club to do things the easy way, but we are a club capable of anything on any given day. The game will depend on away goals after extra time only.

Keep the blue flag flying high.

  4. I think it makes sense to start both BA and FT together. No point messing around. The defense must sit back for their breaks and leave it for our three midfield maestros and the two boys up front…. BUT THEY MUST TRACK BACK. Its a must win. we have lost an opportunity for every single silverware so far!! Lets go for it. Come on the Chelsea.
