Here’s your weekly update on the transfer news and rumours surrounding the club.
After being set to sign, then not signing, then signing again, then not, then being given a deadline, then signing again – Brazilian attacking midfielder Taison, has joined our Champions League group conquerors Shakhtar Dontesk. Taison was reported to have been given the deadline of 10th January to join the Blues. So when 10th January came and went, the 25 year old looked like he was staying with Metalist Kharkiv. But at the last minute, Taison signed a five-year deal with Shakhtar who met his £12.5m buyout clause.
Perhaps the news that fans will be most worried about – Colombian hot shot Radamel Falcao has reportedly dropped a big, PSG sized hint about his future. The Atletico Madrid striker recently announced that he wouldn’t be leaving the Vicente Calderon in January, intensifying speculation about a summer move to Chelsea or Manchester City. Now, it’s claimed that Falcao has told Telefoot that “PSG has a very ambitious project. France is a wonderful country. I went and I loved it”. Reports had suggested that a deal with Chelsea could see Fernando Torres return to his home club.
According to a series of reports, Chelsea could be signing the worst signing in La Liga (and we were going to pay £40m for him!). Yes, former Spurs man, Luka Modric hasn’t settled at all in Spain, struggling to find form and even time on the pitch under Jose Mourinho. Reports suggest we’ll be fighting with Man United for the Croatian, with £22m with supposed asking price.
Everything has gone quiet on the big Belgian front. L’Equipe were reporting that a £22m deal would be done by the end of the week to bring Marouane Fellaini to Stamford Bridge. It’s now Monday and nothing more has been said.
Back over to Spain, and according to The Mirror, we’re searching for the next Michu style bargain super signing. And they say we’ve found him. Iago Aspas. Similar in build to Mata and David Silva, Aspas’ style in likened to that of David Villa. His contract has a buyout clause of €10m. One final thing, and it’s something that always makes me laugh when players are linked with top clubs – along with Chelsea, Aspas is also said to be on the radar of…wait for it…Reading! So, either Reading hold themselves in very high regard, or, we need new scouts.
