Transfer News Update – Taison, Benat, and Guardiola

Josh Mceachran, Ipswich Town

Josh Mceachran against Ipswich Town

We have three main headline makers today regarding possible moves to Chelsea, somewhat surprising names being linked with the club, one Brazilian in particular looks fairly close to being our second capture of the January Transfer window.

Reports had been all over the media today that The Blues were set to complete the deal with Ukranian side Matalist Kharkiv, for their attacking midfielder Taison. However, The Daily Mail’s Neil Ashton has recently published an article stating that Kharkiv have placed a Wednesday deadline for Chelsea to complete the deal.

Terms are thought to be agreed and the player himself had confirmed to media that he has had talks with Roman Abramovich on a recent trip to London, and that he was eager to play alongside his former team mate Oscar, who is already impressing at The Bridge.

Ashton goes on to confirm that Taison already has a work permit completed to play in the UK, but his current club are growing impatient with Chelsea negotiators, who are yet to come up with the £11 million fee wanted by Kharkiv.

A somewhat surprising transfer, when you look at the amount of, and the quality of the personnel already in place at Chelsea in that position. There is no denying the young Brazilian’s talent, but predominantly playing as an attacking midfielder, it would seem an odd position to recruit for. Perhaps it is the fact that he can also operate as a striker that might appeal to Roman Abramovich, but even then he is not prolific records wise and Chelsea need finishers.

Meanwhile, Spanish publication AS claim that Chelsea have had an £8 million offer rejected by Real Betis, for their 25-year-old central midfielder Benat Etxebarria. Allegedly, Roman Abramovich wants the Spanish International as a possible replacement for Frank Lampard and is ready to move in with a higher offer.

Whether this one will gather more pace is unknown, I believe the central midfield position is where The Blues will need to add to, but whether there is much truth behind this one, I’m not so certain.

Finally, we have all heard the rumours regarding Abramovich waiting out for, and wanting former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola, as his own main man at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard has today announced that he ‘is ready to return to coaching’. This will have tongues wagging and Roman’s hands rubbing together for sure.

But there will be other options for Pep, with rumours linking him to Manchester United and Bayern Munich. However, he did rule out managing Brazil, saying that he feels it should be a Brazilian to manage the National side.

  1. Aliyu D Hussain Esq.

I am of the candid opinion that josh mcechren is indeed an apt replacement for super frank and it would be grossly unfair to the lad,not to afford him an opportunity after proving himself during the few times he has been called to question, give the guy a chance to grow his career at chelsea,he deserves it!

  2. Chelsea doesn’t need any meildfieder again, recall de bryne & josh, curtois as well. Use what u have like Ferguson in united.

  3. We do not need a winger…who are we going to offload if we get one now??harzad is active mata is active oscar is active moses is active though he is on a break so when he comes back will you tell taison that he is no longer needed?? And i think benat is a good buy for us…now that moses is on a break we have kevin de brunye we can call him back and i think it’s time to call thiabut…then we can rotate btw him and cech in goal like manchester does with their keepers…and demba ba thumbs up man i hope you have an hat-trick in your debut capital one match

  4. I wonder why in the world Chelsea would want to waste resources on finding a replacement for Lamp, when they have such a talent and capability in Josh Mcechran. This guy has alot to offer at the Bridge, bring him on and stop wasting money!
