Two goals by Milan Lalkovic and a late winner, courtesy of a penalty, from Adam Phillip, helped our reserves to their first win of the season. With some of our younger players away after the first teams trip in the Champions League to Zilina in Slovakia, it left the cupboard a little bare when it came to our trip to the North-East. Josh McEachran was one such example of a player not on duty.

It was Newcastle who took the lead within the first two minutes of the game when Ryan Donaldson challenged Nathaniel Chalobah, won the ball and sent a shot past Jan Sebek and into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. The Magpies could have furthered their lead a few minutes later when Patrick McLaughlin’s shot was well saved by Sebek.

It wasn’t until around the half hour mark when we had a our first shot on target. However, the free-kick from Jacopo Sala didn’t test the Newcastle ‘keeper enough and he was able to gather with ease. With Newcastle on top and pressurising it was firstly against the run of play when Milan Lalkovic equalised after shooting low past Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal, then secondly, it seemed almost impossible when Lalkovic added a second for himself and a second for Chelsea. A ball from left-back Aziz Deen-Conteh found Lalkovic who again slotted past Krul and it was 1-2.

The home team, shocked by letting in two goals, came back into the game and equalised through Haris Vuckic. However, it was then left to Adam Phillip in the last minute to grab the winner. Phillip was able to get away, he ran into the heart of the Newcastle defence, only for Krul to up end him and concede a penalty. The penalty was left to Phillip, who easily scored past Krul, to make it 2-3.

Teams:

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Conor Newton, Tamas Kadar, Matthew Grieve, Sol Campbell, Patrick McLaughlin (sub Greg McDermott 62), Ryan Donaldson, Haris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson (sub Phil Airey 74), Joan Edmundsson, Nile Ranger.

Chelsea: (4-3-3): Jan Sebek; Billy Clifford, Daniel Pappoe (c) (Aliu ‘Kaby’ Djalo 76), Rohan Ince, Aziz Deen-Conteh; Conor Clifford, Nathaniel Chalobah, Jacob Mellis; Jacopo Sala, Milan Lalkovic (Adam Phillip 81), Gokhan Tore (Michael Woods 84).

After the recent boring international break, the real football returned yesterday. More importantly, Chelsea travelled across London to Upton Park for an East versus West clash. We were looking to continue our 100% record, whilst West Ham, were still pointless – in fact, is there any point to West Ham anyway? The earlier clash between Everton and our main rivals Manchester United had ended 3-3, so any win would have put us four points ahead. For the full official report on the match, click on West Ham United 1-3 Chelsea. Two goals from Michael Essien were sandwiched between a Salomon Kalou goal after another blunder by Robert Green. Former Chelsea old boy, Scott Parker, managed to grab a late consolation goal for the Hammers.

Carlo gave his reaction after our 1-3 victory by praising two-goal hero Michael Essien. Carlo said that Essien is one of the best midfield players in the world and went on to say how happy he is that Essien is back after his injury, which kept him out for a lot of last season. Who can possibly dispute that? For the official post-match reaction, click on Marvellous Michael.

After last years disappointment at losing to Inter Milan in the Champions League, our 2010/11 campaign begins again this Wednesday when we travel to Slovakia for the visit to MŠK Žilina. Carlo, in the build up to the game, has said that the pressure to win the Champions League is no more than winning the Premiership and he likes to put himself under pressure. For a great insight to what Carlo had to say, definitely read the link Ancelotti: No Pressure In Europe.

Our record for August ended with us scoring fourteen goals and conceding zero. If that record continues until the end of the season, I think that we would all be happy. Goals from Florent Malouda, his fourth already this season and a Didier Drogba penalty notched us up another three points against Stoke City, to make it, played three and won three since the start of the season, a little over two weeks ago. There was one change to the side, which defeated Wigan Athletic 0-6 last week, as Paulo Ferreira came in for Branislav Ivanovic at right-back. For the full match report from The Official Chelsea website, click on Match Report: Chelsea 2-0 Stoke City

After the recent 6-0 and 0-6 wins, Carlo Ancelotti warned the fans not to expect high scoring results every week. Carlo Ancelotti explained that we couldn’t play with a high tempo due to the fact that there were a lot of throw-in’s. For full reaction details post-match, click on Reaction: Maintaining Top

Frank Lampard will undergo surgery this week for a hernia. During the week Frank had felt pain but the medical department had managed the problem, however, when Frank felt pain during the game and was substituted the decision came for Frank to have surgery. He will now miss England’s games against Bulgaria and Switzerland. You can read Lampard To Have Surgery here.

JT is also another player who has injury problems and will miss England’s games against Bulgaria and Switzerland. Our captain spoke to the England management team on Saturday and our own training camp and all came to the conclusion that JT currently needs a rest.
On Saturday the draw for the third round of the Carling Cup was made. Chelsea play at home to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on either the 21st or 22nd of September.
After last Saturday’s disappointing draw with Manchester United, our youth team travelled North to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, this time the match ended 0-0.

Within the last twenty minutes or so, the Champions League draw has taken place in Monaco. With Chelsea being in pot one, we couldn’t have been drawn against any of the other major players, although we could have drawn José Mourinho’s new club, Real Madrid, as they were in pot two. The draw seems as though it has been very kind to us. Chelsea were drawn in Group F by Gary Lineker, we were the last club to come out of pot one. After a laborious and boring draw, which can only be done by UEFA, eventually our group was made up of Marseille, Spartak Moscow and MSK Zilina. Some older Chelsea fans may remember that we played Zilina in 2003 in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. For even older Chelsea fans we played Marseille back in the 1999/2000 season, this time in the Champions League group stages. For full details of the draw and all groups check the link Groups Drawn In Champions League

Our central defender Michael Mancienne has gone back on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers again for the whole season. Last season Mancienne was at the Molineux and made 33 appearances for Mick McCarthy’s team. To read the official line on Mancienne, click Mancienne Back To Wolves

Recently the club announced that our pre-season tour for the 2011/12 season would be in the Far-East. Today more details were announced with Malaysia being added to the itinerary. Earlier in the week Thailand was announced as part of the tour to the Far -East. In Malaysia we will be playing in Kuala Lumpur, the venue where we played in 2003 when the club took part and won the FA Premier League Asia Cup. For details and reaction to the tour, you can click the official link Return To Kuala Lumpur

The Reserves got their season off to a score drawing start last night when we hosted Everton at Stamford Bridge. Our side included Fabio Borini, Michael Mancienne and 15 year old Nathaniel Chalobah. It was in fact Fabio Borini who scored first after Everton had come close within the first minute. Chelsea lead after the first 45 minutes but with tiring legs in the second half, Everton began to dominate and equalised.

Our goal came after 21 minutes when Nathaniel Chalobah hit a long pass and found Jacob Mellis, who in turn passed to the overlapping Patrick van Aanholt who slotted the ball to Borini. With ease, Borini then drilled his shot past Everton goalkeeper Jan Mucha. Gokhan Tore could have doubled our lead when a free kick on the angle just went over the bar. Fabio Borini also had a shot that just whistled over the bar on the 40th minute mark.

In the second half Everton came back into the game and their equaliser came eleven minutes after the re-start. A free-kick was given away by Gokhan Tore and from the free-kick, Ross Barkley rose and nodded past Sam Walker in goal. Another Barkley effort later in the game gave Sam Walker a fright but he managed to save.

With time running out Chelsea tried to grab the winner, Nathaniel Chalobah had an effort that went wide and in the dying seconds a Josh McEachran missed with an effort after Kaby Djalo had been bought down under a challenge.

Teams:

Chelsea (4-3-3): Sam Walker; Billy Clifford, Rohan Ince, Michael Mancienne, Patrick van Aanholt; Conor Clifford (Milan Lalkovic 77), Josh McEachran, Nathaniel Chalobah; Gokhan Tore (Kaby Djalo 78), Fabio Borini (capt), Jacob Mellis (Jacopo Sala 78).

Everton: Jan Mucha; Aristote Nsiala, Shane Duffy (capt), Shkodran Mustafi, Jake Bidwell; Jose Baxter, Hope Akpan, Ross Barkley, Mageye Gueye (Nathan Craig 60); James Vaughan, Joao Silva (James Wallace 45).

Two games, two wins, twelve goals! Who really in their wildest dreams would have thought that our first two games would have ended 6-0 and 0-6? After Carlo Ancelotti’s Wigan warning on Friday, Chelsea swept in like a tornado and ripped into Wigan. Warnings like that will do for me every week, Carlo. Goals from Florent Malouda, two from Nicolas Anelka, two from Salomon Kalou and a debut away goal from new-boy Yossi Benayoun gave us all three points. The full official match report can be found by clicking on the Wigan 0-6 Chelsea link.

Carlo Ancelotti gave an obvious positive reaction to the result, although he felt that after 45 minutes the teams were quite evenly matched. Carlo’s reaction to scoring twelve goals in two games, was to say “We have a lot of skills, now the best quality is we are able to do a fantastic counter-attack, we have strikers who are fast with ability, so when we have space it is difficult to control for the opponent” All of the reaction from Carlo and Wigan manager Roberto Martinez can be read by clicking on Reaction: This Isn’t Real

Yossi Benayoun came on as substitute for Michael Essien on Saturday and just before the final whistle got onto the score-sheet. This was his very first goal for the club, we hope that he will continue to display the team-ethic that Carlo Ancelotti bought him for. You can see a very small interview with Yossi and reaction to his goal by checking the link Benayoun’s Goal Delight

Our youth team played their first competitive academy game at the weekend with Manchester United our opponents. The first half saw Chelsea take a 2-0 lead through Milan Lalkovic and Philipp Prosenik. However, the second half was a different matter as United scored two goals themselves then during injury time, they popped up to net a third, thus sending our U-18′s to defeat. For the full official match report including team line-ups click Youth Report: Chelsea 2-3 Manchester United Our next U18 game is away to Sheffield Wednesday on August 28 at 11am.

Remember, our reserves kick off their season on Monday against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

It is now time to buckle those seat belts again because the drug that is Chelsea and the Premiership takes us on a roller coaster to our second game of the season. Tomorrow, the fun of the fair takes us to Wigan with the DW Stadium the venue. For those of you that remember, I mean, how can we forget? Last season was not the best of experiences when Chelsea stepped out onto the Wigan turf. A 3-1 defeat needs to be avenged and after Wigan’s opening day 0-4 defeat to Blackpool, the odds on a win are looking good. However, wait, there is a warning ahead of the game from Carlo Ancelotti. To fully read Carlo’s Wigan Warning click on the link provided.

Yesterday was a sad day in the life of Sam Hutchinson and Chelsea Football Club as Sam announced his retirement from football at the young age of 21. Sam has had knee injury problems that have spanned over three seasons and the re-occurrence of the injury has flared again, thus forcing poor Sam to retire. I am sure that everybody here at CFCnet wishes Sam all the very best for his future. I personally hope that he stays within the football community and at Chelsea.

The last two games at Stamford Bridge has now produced fourteen goals. There was the scintillating last day 8-0 thrashing of Wigan Athletic, the day we became champions and at the start of the 2010/11 season, a wonderful 6-0 win over West Bromwich Albion sees us top the Premiership table already. A double strike from Florent Malouda, a hat-trick by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard made it a true blue day at Stamford Bridge. For the official report on the game, click on the Chelsea 6-0 West Bromwich Albion link.

After four consecutive pre-season defeats, the mood was far more upbeat after the thrashing of West Brom. Carlo Ancelotti explained “Didier did a fantastic job, not just because he scored but he worked for the team very hard, as did Anelka and Malouda. They all worked very hard defensively.” Full post-match reaction can be found by clicking the link We Did Our Job

Amongst the reaction to the game Carlo Ancelotti has stated that Brazilian new-boy Ramires will start his training at the start of the week and will be ready for the next game. Ramires signed for the club on Friday after being granted a work permit on Thursday. Reaction to Ramires Santos do Nascimento joining Chelsea can be read by clicking Ramires Signs For Chelsea. Ramires also gave a full interview to the Official Chelsea Football Club website, which can be read by clicking Ramires: Everything And More

On another note, it was excellent to see Roberto Di Matteo and Eddie Newton back at Stamford Bridge yesterday with West Bromwich Albion. Good luck to them for the rest of the season. Another familiar face at Stamford Bridge yesterday was Ruud Gullit, who was half time guest of Neil Barnett.

So, that is now three in a row. Defeat came once again on our pre-season tour of Germany, after a 2-1 defeat to Hamburg left us perplexed and wondering what could be happening ahead of our Community Shield game with Manchester United on Sunday. It was a late goal by Heung Min Son three minutes from the end of the game that consigned us to yet another defeat. It was all looking good early on as well after another Frank Lampard goal set us on our way. For the official match report click Hamburg 2-1 Chelsea Some good news came out of the defeat as Didier Drogba played for 45 minutes.

Carlo Ancelotti said in reaction to the defeat that “We are making a lot of mistakes in this moment,” explained the Italian. “We know we made a mistake, now we have to show more character and more concentration. Usually this team is more focused but these are friendly games. For this reason we are losing some concentration.” For full reaction to our defeat click on Reaction: We Made Mistakes

Today saw the launch of our new away kit. It was worn for the first time against Hamburg, in Germany yesterday. The colour of the kit is Black and Orange and is described as being a striking design with pure performance benefits for removing sweat away from the body. To see the new away shirt, click on the New Away Kit Available link.

Two of our reserve players have been loaned out today. The players are Ryan Bertrand and Ben Gordon. Ryan Bertrand will make his way to Nottingham Forest where he will be at Forest until January 3, 2011. Ben Gordon makes a trip further North, as he heads to Kilmarnock until January 3, 2011 too. To get further information on the loan deals, click Bertrand To Forest, Gordon To Kilmarnock

Today Chelsea has announced a new partnership with Singha Beer on a four year deal. A drunkard outside CFCnet Towers this afternoon told everyone that a pint would cost sixpence, however, we then realised it was Peter singing Singha Songha Sixpence – I’ll get my coat!
