News from Sweden this morning has picked up Chelsea’s first academy scholarship signing for next summer from overseas. It arrives in the form of Swedish 16 year-old midfielder Amin Affane, who has signed a three-year deal to begin in July.

Less than 48 hours after sealing their place in the FA Youth Cup Semi Finals, Chelsea’s academy team were back in league action under the floodlights of their Cobham pitch. An unusual Friday night fixture brought a tough fixture with Norwich, and a late win sealed by an own goal.

In another quiet week overall for Chelsea’s young loanees, the highlight has to belong to Jack Cork, who after making his way through the football league finally made his Premier League debut. It even came in West London, albeit as a substitute for Burnley away to Fulham.

In a rescheduled academy league fixture, Chelsea’s Under-18s fought back from two goals down this lunchtime at Sparrows Lane to earn a 2-2 draw from Charlton Athletic, who they had beaten twice already this season. On another day, the Blues may have won, as they also saw three efforts denied by the woodwork.

This March, Chelsea’s Reserve and Academy side will return to Dallas, Texas for participation in the Dallas Cup, a prestigious youth tournament in its 31st year. After finishing as runners-up three years ago, they’ll be looking to go one better this time.
