CHELSEA 2-1 EVERTON
Chelsea stormed out of the starting blocks today at a snail’s pace. Kevin Campbell headed Everton in front within two minutes with the Blues defence wiping the sleep out of their eyes. The atmosphere went flat after that as Chelsea struggled to break down the hard-working visitors and the home team’s central midfielders struggled to find any creativity.
But then Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink turned things around with a quick-fire double which brought the crowd back to life. Perhaps he was motivated by his sending off at Goodison Park earlier in the season.
The highlight of a lifeless second half was a chant of: “One Mrs Zola” from the home fans. This was a thank you to Gianfranco’s other half for allowing him to sign a new contract. However, Claudio Ranieri decided to take Zola off later in the half, a decision for which he was loudly booed, followed by a chant of: “You don’t know what you’re doing” and then Vialli’s name was sung.
While Gianluca has come back into football at Vicarage Road there are many Chelsea supporters who still feel that he should never have been shown the door at Stamford Bridge.
