STILL IN THE HUNT

An own goal and a nice finish from Salomon Kalou sealed the points at the City of Manchester Stadium this afternoon as Chelsea dispatched Svens’ City 2-0, to keep up the pressure on Manchester United, and move three points clear of Arsenal.

Key players such as Ricardo Carvalho and Didier Drogba were rested ahead of next weeks Champions league match, giving Alex a chance at the back, and Anelka the opportunity to face his old employers at the other end.

An early own goal again gave Chelsea the lead, however there was no comeback for the home side this time, with the match effectively over after some nice footwork by Kalou in the second half doubled the advantage.

A nasty injury to Onuoha meant City had to reshuffle at the back; yet Chelsea couldn’t capitalise despite some excellent work and movement from Anelka, whose performance deserved to be rewarded with a goal. There’s still much to play for this season and we’re still in with decent a shout of doing the impossible – winning the Premiership this season.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Cudicini; Belletti (Ferreira 85), Alex, Terry (c), A Cole; Essien, Mikel, Lampard; Wright-Phillips (J Cole 51), Anelka, Kalou.
