Norwich City youth 3:2 Chelsea youth
Two goals from Marko Mitrovic couldn’t save the youth team at Norwich this morning. They equalised with a sneakily taken free-kick but we had four 16-year old in the team, the mid-week FA youth cup game will see more of the regular reserves return.

Who said it was going to be a quiet transfer window: Gokhan Tore, Turkish youth international, signs from Bayer Leverkusen. We can’t remember where we put the bunting after the last time; it’s age, you start to forget things.
Meanwhile the MK Dons signed Carl Magnay on a one-month loan. Our football icon winning defender joins Roberto Di Matteo’s increasingly successful franchise team.

“I don’t even know this guy,” was Salomon’s simple dismissal of the suggestion that his goal celebration was in support of Antoine Assale Tiemoko, more prosaically he was copying the WWE wrestler John Cena’s gestures before he finishes of opponents in the ring. Let’s hope Salomon can put down a few more foes before the season is out.

 Wednesday 28 January
Chelsea 2:0 Middlesbrough
Salomon Kalou’s brace earned us the points on an otherwise stressful night. Middlesbrough thought they could get a point by defending deep and lacking any ambition, leaving their new signing Marlon King alone up front.
Boro in fact seemed to feel that they could just clatter any Chelsea player with the ball and get away with it. The first half passed pretty much as all first-halves have for the last two-months with the home side with all the possession and the away dug in and hoping.
Didier Drogba came on for the woeful Malouda at half-time and almost immediately had a clear chance that ballooned away to the corner flag. He has done that so often it almost seems like a cry for help.
Kalou then sent a header over before another corner led to a sumptuous volley from the Ivorian and 1-0.
The second also came from a corner this time Saloman was simply unmarked from a corner and the result was inevitable after that. Kalou might be in trouble for his celebrations, he appeared to do the waiving his hand in front of his face and then crossed his wrists in an apparent handcuff gesture.
Some bright spark has already suggested it might be in support of Antoine Assale Tiemoko who has recently been released from prison in the Ivory Coast, but surely you’d pay that kind of tribute when he was locked up not when he was freed?
Finally a big pat on the back for the defence for securing our first clean sheet in seven games, Liverpool’s draw with Wigan sends us back up to second.

Tuesday 27 January
Gareth Southgate has been given a vote of confidence ahead of Wednesday’s game at the Bridge. He needs it like a hole in the head.
Ugh, just to make you feel old; we were flicking through the BBC site and came across news that Sam Parkin has returned to Luton Town after termination of his loan to Leyton Orient. He is 29. Told you it would make you feel old. Sam Parkin is nearly 30.

Monday 26 January
Carlo has gone to Spurs on a free transfer. Signed by Gianluca Vialli (yes, that long ago) Cudicini took over as first choice in his second season and looked to one of the world’s best ‘keepers. OS it was a great surprise that Mourinho brought in Cech, since when, Carlo has seemingly been happy as second choice. He has been a magnificent servant of Chelsea football club and the club treated him correctly by letting him go without any fuss.
Things are not so rosy for Obi Jon who was stopped at 5.30am Saturday morning after driving erratically. You can guess what will happen next.
In other news, the club are going hold another open training session, so we can watch the boys practice zonal marking. Tuesday 17 February for all the fun of the fair, come early door open at 10am.
Lee Sawyer will play for a month with Coventry City. Lee had a good spell at Southend earlier this season.

Sunday 25 January
Watford in the FA Cup, a trip to Brendan Rodgers’ side who have been on the up of late, although they are still struggling to get away from the foot of the Championship table. Vicarage Road has been a rocky place for Chelsea teams over the last few visits so we have to say this will be another test.
Carlo Cudicini appears to be going to Tottenham on Monday morning. While it is noble of the club to recognise his service by charging a minimal fee and not standing in his way, it will leave us without adequate cover in goal. With only Hilário and Rhys Taylor in reserve we’ll probably have to go shopping finally.
The Observer scrabble around for Chelsea crisis stories again. This time Roman’s sale of a quarter of his 40% stake in Highland Gold represents a cash crisis move according to the paper. That the shares were transferred to colleagues with mining experience which may boost the company as a whole seems moot.
