With just over a week to go until the start of the 11/12 Premiership season every fan can’t wait for the action to get underway but which fans will be celebrating a Premiership title at the end of the season?
Man Utd are favourites to retain their title which is no huge surprise, after all not only are they the champions but they also have strengthened with the likes of David De Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young all joining over the summer. It remains to be seen if De Gea is anywhere near Edwin Van Der Sar though and Phil Jones is surely one for the future so they could only be an Ashley Young stronger than last season and he isn’t even guaranteed to start with the likes of Nani and Antonio Valencia also competing for places. This means Man Utd’s odds of 2/1 could be a bit skinny.
Chelsea have the added bonus this season that Fernando Torres and David Luiz will be more settled in, it is normally difficult for players signed in the January transfer window to find their best form for their new club. There also promises to be some big signings before the end of the transfer window, especially in midfield, and that could give Chelsea the extra push they need to overtake Man Utd meaning 3/1 on Chelsea winning the title looks fairly generous especially as Chelsea should be much more consistent than last season.
Even if you don’t fancy Chelsea to win the title you should still be able to make money out of the Premiership Odds. Chelsea’s first four Premiership fixtures are Stoke, West Brom, Norwich and Sunderland and there is a good chance of 12 points from those games. If that is the case then the Chelsea odds will shorten and you could lay off your 3/1 probably at odds of around 2/1 which would guarantee a profit or a free bet on Chelsea winning the league.
Man City managed to tie with Chelsea on points last season but they have the extra burden of the Champions League this season and it is hard to see them being as competitive as they were last year, they may even shock a few people by dropping out the top four with competition for places as high as ever. The 9/2 on offer for Man City to win the league makes no appeal.
Arsenal are on the downgrade and although they always tend to be written off at this stage only to start the season competitively, it is hard to see them improving on last season so 10/1 on their title odds is about right. Liverpool look very short at 12/1 as the likes of Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam certainly wouldn’t get in the Chelsea side whilst Spurs might have had their moment in the spotlight, 66/1 on their chances of winning the league says it all.
