I don’t know what the more surprising headline was over the weekend, news that Justin Bieber may have fathered a child or Chelsea keeping a clean sheet. Being a bit of a Twitterer and Facebooker I read a lot of thoughts and views on Chelsea and I have to say that the Branner, JT, Alex and Ash back line was one that had been mentioned on more than one occasion. The argument against is that there is a lack of pace with AVB wanting a higher defensive line and that Branner doesn’t have the pace or skill to fill the Managers requirement for attacking full backs.
Two things come to mind, one is that Bossie has the pace but doesn’t always have the ‘final ball’ and secondly that Alex is no slouch, and don’t play such a high line. Of course it was obvious that the cross for Lamps goal was courtesy of that non attacking full back Branner. All in all it was not the greatest performance but it was a ‘must win’ three points which keep us in touch with the red and blue Mancs and just behind the over performing ‘bar codes’.
Some Blackburn fans hired a plane to tow a ‘Kean Out’ banner over Ewood Park but even they must have been lucky to escape the deluge of blood from Petr’s hooter as Ash tried hard to rearrange it. Cech bravely played on, producing a spillage and brave save in quick succession from a Pederesen free kick and Hanley follow up. Nando had one of those frustrating matches where not a lot came off and he wasted a couple of good chances.
JT seemed unaffected by all the rubbish coming from QPhaha and led the team in his normal robust fashion. Blackburn even hit the post towards the final minutes of the game for, probably, an undeserved equaliser. Lamps had a great match with nonstop running and sublime passing he really makes a mockery of those who thought his time had ended. Sturridge looked sharp and threatened all through the game. His performance maybe one of the reasons for his subsequent England call up.
For the stattos out there, Chelsea had 62% of possession, had one less shot and made about 75% more passes than Rovers. Just as amazing was that Chelsea had only 2 bookings to Rovers 4, and that we finished the game with a full team on the pitch. So on to the ‘Micky Mousers’ next game up and the hope that Messrs Torres and Meireles will have the opportunity to put their former employers to the sword. So a Mourinho era type victory with more puff than polish but three points none the less as we wave the internationals off and have to endure the muppets booing JT and Lamps at Wembley. Let’s hope everyone comes back fit and let’s see if the Boss sticks with the new tight back four.
As for Justin Bieber? I think he’s pregnant!!
