The inevitable could happen, and there is nothing Chelsea can do about it. If Barcelona want their man, they will get him.

It may come as a surprise that the Spanish giants are fairly strapped for cash at the moment, and could see Romeu as a cheaper option as they struggle to sign Javi Martinez from Bilbao.

When Romeu signed for Chelsea, we all knew about this buy back clause that we agreed to honour. I’m certain that Chelsea officials will already be regretting this decision. None of us were expecting it to be this soon, but today Catalan paper sport, reported that Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, revealed that he is keen to bring Oriol Romeu back to the club with his versatility being extra appealing. Romeu can also play as a centre back, which is the type of versatile player Barcelona are looking for.

Romeu has impressed since joining Chelsea and is sure to improve even more this season. With Obi Mikel being our only recognised holding midfield player, you would have thought Chelsea see Oriol Romeu as a key player this season. It would be a small disaster if he left this season.

It is said that Barcelona can buy the 20 year old Spanish youngster for €10 million this summer, and if they were to wait until next summer, it will rise to €15 million.

I’m assuming the biggest part of this story will depend on how Romeu performs in the upcoming Olympics, where he has been selected for the Spain squad, once again, proving his raw talent and ability.
