Reports in Italy had earlier suggested that, Maicon was set on joining Real Madrid. While today, Sports Mediaset, have gone one step further, by claiming Maicon has all but signed for the Spanish champions.
So are Chelsea set to lose out on both Luka Modric and Maicon to the La Liga champions? Can this be deemed a defeat, or is it a tactical move by Roman?
The translation is a bit sketchy. The report claims, ‘Mourinho has won’. It could be referring to the tug of war Mourinho and Perez were having in regards to Maicon deal. The deal is reportedly worth €8 Million, which will obviously go into the kitty of Inter Milan.
Maicon is set to earn €4.5 Million over 3 years. That means, Real are prepared to offer Maicon a 3 year contract. There were reports earlier in the week that Maicon wanted a 4 year deal at Chelsea, while Chelsea were prepared to offer only a 2 year contract, which is why the negotiations had stalled. But now this latest u-turn looking like Maicon would sooner join Madrid.
Many Chelsea fans would consider this news as a blessing in disguise, many questioning his age and whether we even needed him. So will this now mean that Chelsea have another target in mind? Many supporters have been calling for the name of England and Tottenham right back, Kyle Walker, but I’m pretty sure he is unavailable.
It has been no secret that Maicon wanted to reunite with Jose and vice-versa. Maicon could prove to be a masterstroke signing for Jose, and the ‘special one’ has had plenty of those in his managerial career.
