We’ve been delving into sources today in an attempt to find out some of the latest transfer news, as the clock slowly ticks down to the end of August. Some of the things we’ve heard today are simply just rumours, but what we are about to talk about, has a solid source behind it.
With Roberto Di Matteo and his staff wanting to bring in ‘players for a couple more positions’, there has been much speculation about what those positions are going to be. Here is what we have found out, take it how you will, obviously we’re not saying this will happen, but its using sources we trust. Apart from my first subject….
A player we have been looking at for some time, he’s been scouted by Chelsea for a number of years now and was admired by Jose Mourinho. A decent right back who can also play centre half. He’s probably better going forward with his pace and power but can be suspect at the back. A decent option though, especially if we can get him at the rumoured £10 million.
This one is pure speculation, I’ve heard from a few people today (not my own sources) that he is now seen as a back up option if we do not complete the signing of Cesar Azpilicueta. I personally am not even certain that City will want to sell, especially to they’re rivals, us!
Marseille want to sell, they need money. But, they have other options to sell other players to make them money, so it may not have to be Azpilicueta that they need to get rid of. But, Chelsea are keen and have had a £5.4 million bid rejected. They will go back in with a £9 million offer plus bonuses, but I am now being told that Marseille are attempting to hold out for more and are looking nearer to £12 million. Chelsea may stretch to that, especially as the time ticks, they maybe forced to panic buy as its clear to all that they want to sign a right back.
A similar situation to Azpilicueta, Chelsea have had low bids rejected by Wigan, and will go back in with a higher offer if needs must (i.e panic buying sets in). Wigan want £10 million, Chelsea want to pay no more than £8 million. But with bonuses included in Wigan’s favour, owner Dave Whelan will roll with that deal. But Chelsea are waiting on Hulk, who is seen as they’re main priority to cover the wings and up front.
Which brings me to the man of the moment, Hulk
An interesting saga, which if I’m completely honest with you, I am probably just as confused and know just as much about as you do. This is what I do know. Chelsea want Hulk, Hulk wants Chelsea, even after his agents recent diplomatic comments. But there are complications with the transfer fee and Hulk’s third party owner thats holding the deal up. Also, the fresh news I’ve heard today is that as we first suspected, Porto are holding out for plus £40 million and Chelsea’s offer would fall somewhat short of that, both clubs are being stubborn with negotiations, which are not officially in place yet. Many people claim Hulk is not worth £40 million, maybe so, but Chelsea want Hulk, they have done for some time now and he’s still number one choice.
Ah, another familiar name that’s been linked with us this season. I’ve been told today that one of the positions that Chelsea said they need to buy in, could possibly be a defensive minded midfielder. They’ve bought in class attacking options this summer and the sensible members of the Chelsea staff have raised concerns over our defensive minded midfielders, who will provide the cover for the likes of Hazard, Mata, Marin and Oscar to get forward.
We have Mikel, Essien, Romeu, but with the rotation policy set to be in place again, Chelsea are not prepared to rely on these three players. Everton’s Fellaini has been on Chelsea’s radar for over a year now and we have expressed interest last summer and this summer. Fellaini had also described Chelsea’s interest as ‘flattering’ at the start of summer this year. Once again, the blues are monitoring Fellaini and are said to be ‘showing their interest’ in the Belgium international yet again.
Finally, a fairly new name on the list, Stefan Kiessling.
He plays in Germany for Bayer Leverkusen and his a big tall striker. He’s been capped 6 times for Germany and offers a great aerial threat. He has an eye for goal too scoring 73 goals in 183 appearances for Leverkusen. This is a very outside interest from Chelsea at the moment and he will only be considered if a deal for another forward fails to happen. Stefan is 28-years old, so is against Ron Gourlay’s supposed youth policy that he has talked about, so I can’t see this one happening.
Just to round it up, I’ve been asked about Ashley Cole’s rumours that he might be leaving Chelsea. From what I know, Chelsea want him to sign a new contract, and more than likely he will. But there is interest from a number of clubs including PSG. For the immediate future, he is staying with Chelsea, he is contracted until the end of 2013. I believe a new contract will be negotiated for Cole as Chelsea will do everything in their power to keep him as a Chelsea player.
