With the summertime fast approaching and the weather warming up a bit, this can only mean one thing. The Transfer Window will once again be open and the behind the scenes work has begun already with clubs attempting to seal deals for new players.

Chelsea are certainly going to be one of the busy clubs this summer, perhaps with a mini clear out on the cards. According to the high profile media outlets, this summer could see the end for Fernando Torres, John Obi Mikel, Demba Ba, Ryan Bertrand and David Luiz just to name a few. That is without even mentioning the players who’s contracts are coming to an end.

Torres has been the subject of interest coming in from Italian Serie A side, Inter. According to reports, they are prepared to give The fallen Spanish International one last chance to try his luck in a different country and are willing to pay up to £20 million. A sum that Chelsea will not turn down. Along with that it would appear that Mikel is becoming restless with his bit part role in the squad and with Nemnja Matic holding down that defensive midfield position, Mikel will seek reassurances before handing in a transfer request, which is inevitable. Meanwhile, eccentric Brazilian defender David Luiz is once again the subject of interest from Barcelona, who want him as a replacement for Carlos Puyol who’s leaving the La Liga side this summer. Luiz is one player who Mourinho will want to keep hold of, but the fee of around £35 million that is being talked about could prove too good to turn down.

On loan left back Ryan Bertrand is apparently wanted permanently by Aston Villa and with Chelsea chasing Southampton and England full back Luke Shaw, it is also inevitable that Bertrand will leave this summer. Whilst £8 million pound striker Demba Ba has featured very rarely this season and will most certainly leave as well as a number of others.

So with all this room now available in our squad, we will certainly be seeing some new faces coming in again this summer. The areas that Mourinho is looking at is clearly the left back position and centre forward. It is claimed by a number of the English press, including The Daily Mirror that Mourinho wants to sign two high profile players for these positions, before the World Cup even begins. Those two main targets are Luke Shaw and Paris Saint-Germain’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani. The latter has been a Blues target for sometime now and it seems the move is the closest it’s been since they first showed interest.

Cavani,27, has been touted as Chelsea’s number one high profile target and it is said that owner Roman Abramovich will make the money available to sign the all round target man. Along with that, Chelsea will battle with Manchester United in making the signing of lifelong Chelsea supporter and fresh new England International, Luke Shaw, who is being touted to become the best left back in the world. Quite fitting that he will be replacing a former best left back in the world, Ashley Cole if he does join Chelsea. Cole has become surplus to requirements under Mourinho as the aging England International has lost his place to a right back, in the shape of Spanish high flyer Cesar Azpilicueta who is having an excellent season as a Blue.

It’s not often that these deals would usually get done before a major summer tournament, but Mourinho wants to get them sorted out before hand so that both players can have their future’s decided before they leave and allowing them to concentrate on the World Cup.

With the Financial Fair Play big guns watching clubs like a Big Brother camera, I can’t see Chelsea making too many more signings even though there has been talk of another centre half coming in, perhaps Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Although with Kurt Zouma already arriving, I can’t see another coming in yet especially with Gary Cahill and John Terry holding down those roles so well this season. Terry will surely be given another extension to his contract as he clearly still has so much to offer his beloved club.

This could be good news for some of our on loan youngsters, who could well be rewarded with a run in the first team squad next season instead of being shipped out again. Most notably the likes of Thorgan Hazard and Nathan Ake are both seriously pushing for a place in the squad next season. Imagine two Hazard’s in The Blues starting line up next year!
