Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres
Chelsea travel to, already relegated, Cardiff City for the final swansong of the 2013/14 season. The game itself is actually meaningless with Cardiff dropping out of the league and Chelsea having secured third place and automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Mourinho will use the opportunity to field some of the club’s outstanding fringe players. I would expect to see Hilario get an outing along with Kalas, excellent at Anfield, van Ginkel and perhaps a final appearance in a Chelsea shirt for Fernando Torres. Chelsea will not blood any of their youngsters, as would be normal at this time of year, because of the pending U21 Premier League final on Wednesday against Manchester United.

JM knows the players that will make up his squad for next season. We will be linked with every player in Europe in the close season but Mourinho wants to do his business before the world cup. We are currently hotly linked with Diego Costa, Ezequiel Lavezzi and German International Sami Khedira. These three make perfect sense and would add real quality to our squad. I also believe there will be significant departures with Cole, Eto’o, Ba, Mikel, Luiz, Torres and possibly Frank Lampard all exiting.

This final match of a fascinating topsy – turvy season may be meaningless but the ‘special one’ wants to win every match and we should have too much for a down trodden home side.

So, to sum up the season. Positives are Cech, Cahil, Azpilicueta, Terry, Hazard and Willian. Negatives are that JM had to play containing tactics to win certain matches as he did not believe in all of his players and their offensive abilities. This will be addressed this summer and expect a new look starting XI next season. I would have settled for third place and a CL semi spot, at the start of the year.

Mourinho must be delighted that our fantastic youngsters won the FA Youth Cup and our U21 are favourites for their final. Congratulations to Dermot Drummy and Adi Viveash and their charges for these great achievements.

Enjoy the final day with Man City needing a point at home to West ham to regain the Premiership.
