Off the back of crashing out of The Champions League, here is a look at the top five transfer targets for Jose Mourinho this summer.
1. Paul Pogba –
It’s no secret that the Juventus midfielder is wanted by Chelsea and has been for some time now. However, there are a host of clubs in for the 21-year-old who is the hottest prospect around at the moment and ridiculous fee’s are already being spoken about. Chelsea are firm favourites thus far though.
2. Raphael Varane –
Seen as John Terry’s long term replacement but he wants first team football. With Terry likely to sign a contract extension for another year at least and Kurt Zouma coming through, I’m not sure how easy it’ll be to convince the young defender to join. But he’s certainly a top target.
3. Mauro Icardi –
The 22-year-old Argentine is another hot prospect and is a perfect all round striker. Chelsea will likely lose both Loic Remy and Didier Drogba this summer, Icardi is the subject of a £30 million replacement and offers some solid competition for Diego Costa up top.
4. Marquinhos –
The alternative to Varane. The young PSG defender is a class act and could certainly be looked at as another long term replacement for John Terry.
5. Douglas Costa –
Fast, direct and versatile, the three main reasons that he is being touted as another to join this summer with some suggestion the deal is already in place. He can play anywhere across the attacking three or up top. Chelsea should be able to get him for £22 million.
Of course there are further players being talked about and there will be many more, but I feel this could be the realistic main five targets that are being considered currently.
