Jose Mourinho’s Champions elect are six points from the premiership title. They travel to the King Power stadium to take on rejuvenated Leicester City following a very impressive draw at the Emirates on Sunday. Chelsea have been training at the excellent St George’s Park National football centre.
Mourinho continues to have a dilemma up front with 37 year old Drogba struggling and Remy injured. A decision will be made on Costa today. Personally I think he will go with Drogba tonight and use Costa from the bench, if required. The only other concerns for the Blues are Oscar, who suffered concussion on Sunday at Arsenal and Courtois, who is reportedly struggling with a hip injury.
The foxes meanwhile have their own dilemma. After a fantastic run of four victories do they risk players tonight ahead of a must win game against Newcastle at the weekend? There are doubts over several players who may not be risked. The main concerns are Nugent, Vardy and most importantly Jeff Schlupp.
Leicester City last won five in a row, in the top flight in the 1963/4 season. The goalkeeper was a certain Gordon Banks! A victory tonight would surely be their finest hour. They do have insider knowledge through Cambiasso who was part of Jose’s Inter team that won everything.
I expect Mourinho to make several changes tonight. We have the squad to rotate and he will surely make the most of his available personnel. Chelsea will line up with Cech in goal, the usual back four, Fabregas and Matic with Hazard, Willian, Ramires and Drogba. This team are more than capable of getting the points required to set up a massive party on Sunday.
Much has been made of Chelsea’s game plan against Arsenal. My how Arsenal fans have short memories! George Graham’s teams did not have 1-0 to the Arsenal on the back of their shirts, they had champions! Oh how they wish they had Jose Mourinho at the helm, a serial winner!
By the way congratulations to Liverpool on the 25th anniversary of their last league triumph.
