Welcome to Friday’s transfer news update from CFCnet, where we bring you the latest talk of arrivals and departures at Stamford Bridge with the summer transfer window vastly approaching.

According to The Metro, Chelsea have made an offer of around £43 million for Atletico Madrid starlet Antoine Griezmann. The 24-year old French international striker is in fine form scoring 22 goals in La Liga this season but he has recently stated his desire to play in the Premier League and is considering the offer. The reports also state that The Blues have matched his buyout clause.

Well, we certainly need a striker and more strength in depth, but with Diego Costa there I can’t see this happening. Griezmann will want to be a starter and so will Costa. But there is a real need for serious competition up top next campaign so it could be a good move if true.

Nathaniel Clyne meanwhile has stalled on any contract talks with Southampton and has apparently been given 10 days to respond by his club, who seem to be taking a stern approach to this. Chelsea have been interested and this is another area of the pitch we need some depth in. With the home grown quota coming in to play, I could see this move happening but only at the right price, The Blues will not get involved in any bidding wars here.

Finally, Patrick Bamford is the main transfer target for Newcastle next season, who are looking to add some quality in order to give a better effort in the Premier League. Bamford has been identified as a perfect fit and is wanted by a number of clubs. Any deal however, will only be a loan deal as it is believed the England Under 21 International is regarded as having a future at Chelsea but only after some Premier League experience.
