There are a whole host of Premier League players who are facing uncertain futures at the end of this season with expiring contracts and having yet to agree new deals. With Financial Fair Play taken in to account, it might be wise for Jose Mourinho to look at the free transfer market as he looks to bolster his squad depth next season. Here is a look at CFCnet’s potential recommendations…

Danny Ings

The Blues are yet to have their name seriously mentioned with Ings and there are a few clubs in for him. For me, this would make sense, he’s young and English so will help the home grown quota and along with that we are potentially losing two strikers this summer ourselves so Ings would be a decent second or third choice. However, he will be seeking first team football so a move to Chelsea is unlikely.

Luke Garbutt

Garbutt is a highly rated England Under-21 international and is also out of contract at the end of this season. With Chelsea only having one recognised left sided defender in the squad and his future also uncertain, I feel that Garbutt would be a good backup option and once again, filling the home quota. I’ve personally watched him play on a number of occasions and he’s quick, direct, energetic and focused – Mourinho’s type of player.

Micah Richards

A versatile and solid defender who will always give you 100%, could be a great addition to the defence and can cover in most positions. Chelsea have shown interest in him previously.

And we are still going to need a replacement for Petr Cech, there are a few decent names here that can be picked up on a free…

Ben Amos from Manchester United, Boaz Myhill from West Brom, Gerhard Tremmel from Swansea and Artur Borac from Southampton.

Some interesting names there and for me if we’re looking to cover positions and squad depth on the cheap, then some of these are no brainers and also some good quality young players who still have a very bright future.
