Good morning and welcome to CFCnet’s transfer news update where we take a look at the latest possible arrivals and departures at Stamford Bridge ahead of a busy summer transfer window.
Our focus first of all this morning is fairly local with an apparent interest in a couple of British defenders from Everton. Reports have surfaced that not only are Chelsea interested in full back Seamus Coleman, but their is also a potential pursuit of England International defender John Stones.
It would appear that Chelsea are keeping an eye on home grown quota rules as they search for reinforcement and strength in depth at the back. Jose Mourinho is an apparent fan of Stones and his style of play, also his versatility to be able to play centre back as well as full back is a strong appeal. Everton Manager Roberto Martinez is adamant that both his young defenders are staying put, but this could mean nothing if Chelsea move in with tasty offers.
I believe it is a good idea to track home grown quota’s and I happen to rate both Stones and Coleman, but I would not be interested in pursuing either should the price be too high. However, Stones is only 20 years of age and has bags of potential to eventually replace captain John Terry. Could be a fair pursuit there.
Moving on, according to reports this morning it is Liverpool who are on the verge of signing Petr Cech for £10 million. Once again I will reiterate, I’d be highly surprised if we sold him to another English club however, there might not be too much choice as the stopper wants to move but the Blues will only allow for a fair amount so the clubs might be few willing to pay that for a player the wrong side of 30 even though he is still world class.
Chelsea apparently have a decent buying relationship with Atletico Madrid having signing players from them recently and also offloaded Fernando Torres in their direction. This means we will almost certainly see arrivals from that part of Spain this summer. Two players that seem most likely at the moment are midfielder Jorge Koke who is highly rated and admired by The Blues along with Antoine Griezmann who has notched up 23 goals since last July after joining from Real Sociedad.
Chelsea are certainly in the hunt for a few strikers, we could actually see two arrive but this all depends on what deals they can get, which is why they are open to many targets right now and will not get involved with any bidding wars or over priced fees.
Koke is definitely the type of midfielder that Mourinho is looking at and it becomes more likely that he could well be heading to London this summer along with another, with perhaps Filipe Luis heading back in the other direction.
