Good Afternoon Blues and welcome to Thursdays news updates from CFCnet, where we take a look at the latest Chelsea news, transfer rumours and anything else surrounding the Stamford Bridge club.

First off, Gary Cahill was delighted to yesterday confirm his new 4-year contract extension at Chelsea, signing on the dotted line just in the nick of time, before he reached 30-years of age and Chelsea’s over 30’s 1-year contract only policy comes in to place.

The Chelsea defender had this to say “I have achieved a lot here and I hope I can keep on learning, helping the team and lifting trophies over the next four years,” the centre-back said. I’m really pleased to commit my future to Chelsea and it’s great the club has put their faith in me.”

A great signing in my opinion for who is a very underrated player in general who even at 29, will continue to get even better.

Meanwhile, a not so happy youngster Charley Musonda has become frustrated and unsettled at the club and there is apparent interest from Arsenal. The 19-year old Belgian is a hugely promising talent and is set to be on the same level as fellow country men Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne.

However, he has said that he feels there is no route in to the first team at Chelsea and will hold crunch talks with the club in the coming weeks.

I understand his frustrations here and if you look at our rival clubs, there are 19-year olds breaking through and being given the chance all around the country, but at Chelsea Jose Mourinho has always struggled to put faith in young players and give them a run in the team. You just need to look at the Ruben Loftus-Cheek situation there. This is one of the Manager’s biggest and quite important flaws in my opinion.

Something MUST change here, younger players need more chances to express themselves, otherwise our academy is simply creating excellent players for other clubs.

Finally, The Metro have claimed that Chelsea have a four man striker short list who they will pursue in January, regardless of whether Diego Costa stays or not. With Loic Remy’s future in doubt and Radamel Falcao not cutting it, there is certainly going to be a move for a forward in the new year.

The publication claim that in no particular order, these four are the main targets – Antoine Griezmann, Alex Teixeira, Jamie Vardy and Saido Berahino.

Whilst Griezmann has always been the main target, I think realistically he might be out of reach. Vardy will also be tough to get as his club will do anything to keep hold, Berahino is certainly a much more do-able target but the most likely right now is Teixeira.

Although the Brazilian youth International is more an attacker than an out an out striker, he has already confirmed that he is in talks with Chelsea for a January move. Could we also see a poacher type like Berahino arrive as well? Time will tell …
