As the Blues finally returned to a performance worthy of a Premier League winning side, turning over a high flying Crystal Palace side in their own back yard, confidence appears high amongst the senior management at the club.

Guus Hiddink speaking after the weekend’s thrashing had the follow to say on the chances of gaining Top 4…

“It’s difficult because this league has become so strong; everyone can win from everyone. It’s very difficult to get there. It’s possible but there’s a long way to go. We have to get back to thinking why we were champions”

With the transfer window re=opening, there is of course constant rumours circulating on our apparent targets and departures. AC Milan are interested in taking Branislav Ivanovic to Italy this month. The 32-year old has six months left on his current Chelsea deal and has yet to sign a new contract.

Meanwhile, the press are reporting that Chelsea will be in a battle to sign England defender John Stones from Everton and are said to pip United with a £50 million offer this month. Everton are still expected to stand firm on this one but Stones could put in another request and this type of fee will be hard to ignore.

Alex Teixeira who had previously confirmed he had already agreed to join Chelsea, is apparently being helped along the way by Brazilian team mates Oscar and Willian. The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has been wanted by Chelsea for some time and it looks like now the deal is close to being sealed, with the help of the persuasive Brazilian pairing.

Finally, another Brazilian target Marquinhos is growing increasingly frustrated at being over looked for a starting slot with Paris Saint-Germain and has hinted he could way up his options in the summer. This won’t be a deal that will happen in January as the defender is keen to see if he does get his chances, but Chelsea are certainly monitoring the situation closely as they look to replace John Terry at the heart of the defence.
