According to reports, Antonio Conte looks set to be appointed as the new Chelsea manager after this summer’s European Championship. The former Juventus coach has announced that he will leave his position as head coach of the Italy national team and has admitted that he is looking forward to taking on a daily role as manager of a club team.
If Conte does move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea may be set to sign a number of Italian stars and they don’t come much bigger than Lorenzo Insigne. The Napoli forward has formed a lethal partnership alongside Gonzalo Higuain in attack and is a key reason for their current title battle with Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.
At the time of writing, Coral are offering 7/2 on Chelsea to bounce back and win the Premier League title next season and plenty of punters will be taking football tips on the Blues to do just that. Conte has been described as the “Italian Mourinho” in the past and that is exactly what Chelsea need – a born, proven winner with a fresh challenge.
Insigne would be the perfect addition to an ageing Chelsea side, especially if Eden Hazard leaves the club this summer. Insigne is in formidable form and while he’s a bit of a gamble, Conte could be the man to transform his potential into world class talent – that’s how good he is.
Conte isn’t a miracle worker but he is an exceptional man-manager and the Italy coach will be looking to immediately put his own stance on proceedings at Stamford Bridge. Insigne would slot into the side either on the wing, in the ‘number 10’ or alongside Diego Costa in attack and his versatility will appeal and win over many Chelsea supporters.
Right now, Conte and Insigne will remain focused on Italy’s chances this summer. Here’s one for your money: Italy are currently 18/1 with Coral to win the European Championship and Conte will be desperate to make a lasting impact before leaving his post. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Conte and Insigne combine to lead Italy to glory this summer and then team up at Stamford Bridge before the beginning of next season.
Chelsea fans will already be excited at their chances of silverware next season, especially with the organised Conte in charge. And with Lorenzo Insigne in the side, the Blues will be much more exciting in attack – something that will appeal to both Chelsea supporters and club owner Roman Abramovich.
