A very quiet week final breaks into life with Wales slumping out to a poor Portugal side that barely broke sweat. The Wales team will regret not having a better go but the spotlight of a semi-final can blind even the best.
Ola Aina signed an extended contract. The big defender has been with us since he was 11 and will be on our pro books for another four years.

Thursday 7 July
Jeremie Boga will spend the season with Granada in La Liga giving us even more reason to renew that Sky subscription to watch Spanish football – Charly Musonda is with Betis.
Jeremie, who was with Rennes in France last season, is one of our brightest attacking talents and Spain should suit his development.

On the pitch France beat Germany to take the party through to the last day as they will play Portugal on Sunday night. Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid scored both in a 2-0 win.

Saturday 9 July
Good grief, Charlie Brown signed on at the academy from Ipswich Town. The youth team added a young talent called Nya Kirby as well as a host of young players start to find loan placements.

Sunday 10 July
Chelsea 1:1 Birmingham City
The girls made heavy weather of this one as they let the brummies take the lead and then toiled to get back in against one of the league’s strongest defences. Eni Aluko scored our equaliser as a second-half sub. With Chelsea back in pre-season training, thoughts turn to the serious business of winning trophies. In the evening Portugal beat France in the final of the Euro’s. It has happened before when Denmark and then Greece won the trophy that a defensive one dimensional team pull off a shock. You just have to shrug and hope that a football team win it next time. Next time when the final is at Wembley.

Over in Austria the U21 side lost 4-2 to Nurnberg in a friendly after the U18s held an U20 Bayern Munich side to a 1-1 draw.
