Marcin Bułka, a 16-year-old goalkeeper has signed from Barcelona’s Polish feeder side FCB Escola Varsovia. NO we didn’t know they had a Polish club either.
The young stopper has quite a reputation already and should do well with Jody Morris’ men.
Over the weekend in the Netherlands:
Vitesse Arnhem U23 2:3 Chelsea U23
Bar a couple of slip in the first-half that lead to goals this was as close to the finished performance as you could want at this stage of pre-season.
Goals came from Charlie Colkett’s free-kick and penalty either side of a Trevor Chalobah header.
Vitesse Arnhem U19 0:1 Chelsea U18
A very strong performance from Jody Morris’ squad as Richard Nartey scored the decisive goal in a game where we defended from front to back and pressed the ball magnificently.
Fikayo Tomori signed a new four-year contract with the club. The strapping defender made his debut late last term and is out in the States with the first-team squad.
Tuesday 2 August
Baba Rahman will play at Schalke this season with a view to a permanent move next season. Baba made a lot of appearances last season so the club must be very happy with the development squad left-backs or planning to make another transfer splash.
Wednesday 3 August
Chelsea U18 3:0 Watford U18
The academy is progressing nicely toward the start of the season as they brushed aside a good Watford team.
Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Charlie Brown and Luke McCormick scored our second-half goals.
Thursday 4 August
AC Milan 1:3 Chelsea
They equalised with a stunning free-kick just before the break after Bertrand Traore finished off a rebounded Victor Moses shot but second-half goals from Oscar sealed the deal.
This was a composed performance as we dominated the first-half with good possession and a few decent chances.
N’Golo Kante made his bow in the second period and look right at hom as we switched to a 4-3-3.
You might want to check the seams of your new jersey as three Chelsea shirts were torn during the match.
Antonio Conte said after the match that he and the club needed to sit down and decide on the loan and transfer fate of the squad ahead of the season. There is one more match against Werder Breman during which everyone will be falling over themselves to impress.
Roma snapped up Mohamed Salah after his successful loan there last season. The fee hasn’t been revealed but speculation puts it just below £13m
Over in Brazil at the Olympics – yes, already – Hedvig Lindahl kept a clean sheet as her Sweden team beat South Africa 1-0 in front of a handful of curious locals.
Friday 5 August
Overnight Nigeria managed to hop a plane to Brazil just in time to beat Japan 5-4 in their opening match. John Obi Mikel proudly captained his U23 colleagues who stand a decent chance of a medal.
Papy Djilobodji has left for Sunderland in a £8m deal. It means we made £4m on the price we paid Nante for the big Senegalese defender who spent the second half of last season on loan at Werder Bremen.
Fulham and Newcastle kicked off the football season tonight with the Cottagers winning by the odd goal.
Tammy Abraham has joined Bristol City, no snickering at the back, in a season long loan. Tammy will love scoring goals in the Championship at the newly refurbished Ashton Gate.
Saturday 6 August
Derby County U18 0:4 Chelsea U18
A brace in each half from Callum Hudson-Odoi and then Charlie Brown ensured the academy development squad finished with a 100% pre-season winning record. They entertain Fulham next Saturday morning.
Tammy Abraham lit up the loan scoring charts already with an equaliser for Bristol City as they overhauled Wigan in the last ten minutes for a 2-1 win.
Jordan Houghton has moved to Doncaster Rovers until January. The midfielder had a strong loan spell with Plymouth Argyle at the end of last term and starts this in the Doncaster side as they lost away to Accrington Stanley.
Also on loan are Croatian stopper, and perennial loanee, Matej Delac who joins Belgian outfit Royal Excel Mouscron and Bekante Victorien Angban, who will play over in Spain with Jeremie Boga at Granada
Sunday 7 August
Werder Bremen 2:4 Chelsea
Conte will not be happy with the two goals we conceded or with John Terry limping out after a blow to the head but the early attacking passing and movement really caught the eye. Diego Costa was back to his menacing best, even taking out some anger on a billboard late on, but Hazard and Oscar really made things tick.
Kante was solid and all energy he looks for a quick pass to help the rhythm of the team.
The goals came from Hazard Oscar and Costa in the first-half and a late Pedro strike in the second. Bremen’s first was scored by Chelsea old boy – he is now 37 – Claudio Pizarro. The Peruvian made a few appearances for us at the end of Jose Mourinho’s first spell and under Avram Grant.
Sweden were thrashed by Brazil in the Olympic football with Hedvig Lindhal watching five goals fly in. Sweden now face China for a place in the quarter-final.
