Known as the west London derby, Chelsea has a bit of history playing against their derby rivals. The two teams have played each other 13 times, with Brentford winning 4 matches, Chelsea winning 7 and the other 2 results being a draw. Most recently Chelsea played Brentford in the Fa cup which was the first time the two teams played against one another in over 60 years with the first match being 2-2 at Brentford ground. The replay ended up going in Chelsea’s favour as they stumped the Bees’ 4-0. Throughout Brentford’s history, they have played Chelsea three times in the Fa Cup, so are we going to see a 4th?

Their previous encounter
During their last meeting Juan Mata opened the scoring with a shot from distance, during this match Frank Lampard then became Chelsea’s leading FA Cup goal-scorer after he side footed Oscars cross. John Terry sealed the game with a late header from yet another Oscar pass. Throughout this match Brentford did look threating at times, Adam Forshaw was Brentford best attacking threat throughout the game, with the midfielder sending two efforts from distance and Forshaw was troubling the Chelsea defence throughout the match but it just wasn’t enough as Chelsea came out 4-0 winners.

Can they be matched up again?
So far they can be matched up as Brentford advances to the 3rd round and Chelsea automatically being put in the 3rd round. Both teams are waiting for their opponents to be determined, which are taking place Tuesday 13th of December.  The teams that are playing in the second round are: MK Dons, Charlton, Oxford, Macclesfield, Halifax Town, Eastleigh, Stourbridge and Northampton. When you look at those teams, you’d think Chelsea should win and advance through to the 4th round and Brentford should have a enough about themselves to beat one of these teams, but it is the FA cup and miracles do happen in this competition, so who knows. If Chelsea and Brentford were to win their games in the 3rd round, then there is a good possibility for them to play against each other once more and if they don’t face each other in the 4th round, then if they advance to the 5th, they’ll even have a bigger chance in playing one another.

Will be it be another white wash like last time?
Obviously last time, Chelsea hammered their opponents 4-0 after Brentford forced them to a replay. But if they were to play each other again would it be the same? Well since two have played against each other, Brentford have got better as a team. They have been promoted to the championship; almost got playoffs’ and are now looking to establish themselves as a steady Championship team. Chelsea on the other hand have had their problems- they have gone through a number of managers and finished 10th last season. Yet, if they were to play each other now, I believe if it was at Brentford’s ground, they would Chelsea a good go and provide them with a fair number of problems. But at the end of the day, there is a good chance for the two teams to play against each other once more.
