The English Premier League title is now Chelsea’s to lose. Their last Sunday’s’ victory at Goodison Park has actually laid some speculations about their ability to continue holding their own against the big guns to rest. So, one can say that their dominance in the English Premier League in the 2016/2017 campaign will be crowned with victory after all. Their remaining three matches and the three that Tottenham has left – lends more credence to this. If you check sport odds online, it should always favour Chelsea to nip this.
Looking at Antonio Conte and what he has achieved in coaching in the past, one can actually bet on this Chelsea that has been riding on Conte’s signature 343 formation to dominate English football once again next year. But this is not until certain actions are taken.
The first action is that Conte should be retained as their manager. Many people will actually not make sense of this. But if a club like Barcelona comes calling for Conte, I doubt if it will be easy to dismiss. Antonio Conte has shown a great level of consistency in dominance. As much as he did not have much success in the European front while coaching Juventus, he actually knows how to make great runs in domestic football. Three years he coached the Old Lady, and 3 years he did run off with the Serie A title. He also won the Italian Super Cup twice.
Having found the players to translate his 3-4-3 killer philosophy on the pitch in Chelsea, he only needs to reinforce during the summer business window to keep up the pace. He understands the need for such reinforcements and that was why he had this to say before he left Juventus, “Well, you cannot go to eat at a €100 restaurant with just €10 in your pocket, can you?”
A look at the area’s Antonio Conte would need to strengthen to be able to dominate the league next season
This is more of retaining than reinforcing. The presence of one huge extraordinary player who rises to the occasion when other players seem not to have their Mojo is very important in any high profile team. Barcelona and Real Madrid will attest to this, and Hazard has also lived up to this in the seasons that Chelsea did well. Conte must try to keep him.
his is actually the crux of the matter, and the 3-4-3 formation is hinged on them. At the moment, Chelsea has only two left wing backs in Alonso and Ake while there is only a single right wing back in Victor Moses. Chelsea must get another set of right and left wing backs for back up. in fact, Chelsea has not won the 2016-2017 league title yet, only because Moses was absent in the match against Crystal Palace and Alonso was absent in the match against Manchester United. Both games were lost by Chelsea.
Ngolo Kante is the only consistent man in Chelsea’s central midfield. Nemanja Matic is coming off with lots of errors and inconsistency, and Conte doesn’t like the tackling strength of Fabregas. So, he needs to go in search of at least two established central midfielders that can be a regular in Chelsea. When it is not Kante’s day, Chelsea’s midfield is always overrun.
Pedro and Hazard are doing just fine. But adding a player in the calibre of Alexis Sanchez will do. And, that brings us to the striking position. We have seen teams without an out and out striker making great seasons. With speculations about Diego Costa’s stay and the fact that he always ends the seasons on a dry run, a change of formation could do. A Chelsea front with Hazard, Pedro and Antoine Griezmann will be as effective as the Merengue BBC and the Catalan MSN.
With this, the league will be Chelsea’s for the taking next season.
