Summer Transfer Targets
The Premier League title is in the bag and there is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment at the Bridge right now. However, whilst us fans can revel in the glory, Antonio Conte and his staff will already be plotting the defence of that trophy and a serious assault on the Champions League.
The Blues may have romped to success this season but there is no doubt they need some serious additions if they are to challenge Europe’s finest next spring. Conte is a master at squeezing every drop of ability out of his squad – see Italy’s over achievement at the Euros before he moved to the Bridge.
However, Chelsea need to add both depth and star quality to their squad over the next transfer window. Here we look at some of the most likely – and desirable – targets for the Blues.
Lukaku has had a stupendous season and looks set to win the Premier League Golden Boot. With Diego Costa priced at odds of just 1/3 to move to China in the summer, the Pensioners need at least one and possibly two (or even three) additions up front.
Lukaku has unfinished business at the club and has been open about his desire to return and to play Champions League football. He lacks the warrior mentality that Conte loves but would still be a great addition to the club. He’s priced at odds of 13/8 with BetVictor to join Chelsea in the summer and we think he’s a decent bet to do just that.
Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk doesn’t reach the age of 26 until July and would be an excellent addition to Chelsea’s defensive numbers. If the Blues are to play three at the back they will definitely need another centre back, even if the likes of Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake may be the future of the club.
Van Dijk is experienced and could easily slot straight into Chelsea’s team. He chips in with the odd goal and has improved month by month whilst at Southampton. The Saints are set to demand a high fee, with a number of clubs interested in the Dutchman, but we fancy Chelsea will win the race. The former Celtic man is a good bet to join the Blues at odds of 19/10 with Coral.
If Arsenal’s attacking Chilean were to move from the Emirates to the Bridge, Gunners fans would be outraged. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen though. Sanchez has made it fairly clear he wants to move to a club that can win things and his attitude would really appeal to Conte.
Sanchez is linked with Man City and Bayern Munich too but staying in London would carry obvious appeal. If Eden Hazard leaves – which sadly has to be considered a real possibility – then the case for signing Sanchez would strengthen. However, the fact that the Chilean is so versatile means that he would be an excellent addition to the Blues’ squad no matter what. If you fancy this is a deal that will happen, we certainly can’t put you off odds of 5/1 with Paddy Power.
