Chelsea reportedly made an ambitious swoop for Brazilian superstar Neymar totalling £25million when he was playing for Santos back in 2010.
Neymar’s former agent Wagner Ribiero spoke with Spanish source AS via quotes carried in the Daily Mail, stating that the Blues wanted a then teenage superstar in the making but it never materialised;
I received an official offer from Chelsea the day Neymar debuted with the Brazilian team in 2010.’
They made an offer, we studied it, but in the end we didn’t decide anything. On that occasion we transferred it to Neymar’s father and the player himself.’
Then came other offers from Bayern Munich and Juventus with whom I had a meeting in Turin.’
Three years after Chelsea’s apparent bid, which was said to be worth around £25 million, Barcelona clinched the signing of Neymar – in 2018 he made a world record switch to PSG where he has scored 69 in 80 appearances to-date.
Interestingly at the time the manager of Chelsea was Carlo Ancelotti, who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his two seasons in-charge at Stamford Bridge – imagine Neymar could have been a part of that title winning squad.
