Tiemoue Bakayoko has revealed the two areas of his game which he needs to improve on after attracting some negative attention for his performances in recent weeks.
It was hardly the most straightforward win Chelsea will pick up this season.
The Blues came from behind to beat Watford 4-2 on Saturday with manager Antonio Conte having to thank substitute Michy Batshuayi after his two-goal cameo.
One man who didn’t have the best of matches was Tiemoue Bakayoko and now, the summer signing has identified the areas of his game he needs to improve on.
“I need to improve on the ball and there are some little details that need to be smoothed out,” Bakayoko said. “I’m improving and in a few weeks’ time, I hope to be have progressed further in all facets of the game.
“My role is about linking up well with the player alongside me, whether it’s N’Golo or Cesc (Fabregas). We all know that N’Golo was named the best player in the Premier League, so I’ve been learning a lot from him.
“I’m not here to do what Matic did. Matic is a player that I really like; he’s a very good footballer. I’m here to play my game, to try to implement what the coach asks.
“Antonio Conte is one of the main reasons why I signed for the club. I knew that he was a coach who’d help me improve in terms of tactical awareness.”
It’s good that Bakayoko wants to improve. The midfielder is clearly strong in some areas but does have some weaknesses in his game. Let’s hope that Antonio Conte and the coaching staff can help develop him into the complete midfield player.
