Carles Puyol has revealed that he doesn’t think Chelsea’s Eden Hazard can be compared to players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (via Sky Sports).
Messi versus Ronaldo is one of the great football questions of all time. Everyone has their preference of the two players but with both men past 30, their playing days are coming to an end.
People often think of Eden Hazard as the most natural successor to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but it seems that not everyone is a fan.
“I don’t think he’s at their level yet. We are talking about incredible players,” revealed former FC Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol.
“It’s not just one season, they have been at the maximum level for 10 years now.
“For me, Messi is the best player in the world and in history. It’s impressive what he’s doing every year at an exceptionally high level, breaking records, getting better and better in more aspects of his game.
“So to compare him with Messi or Ronaldo is difficult, but Eden Hazard is a fantastic player. He’s a player who makes the difference and has plenty of time to grow.”
We’ll get a chance to see whether or not Puyol is right when Chelsea travel to the Camp Nou to take on FC Barcelona this evening. It’s a massive tie for both sides but for Hazard personally, it’s a great opportunity to showcase his talent.
