It’s always interesting to see how each team approaches the summer transfer window. Some clubs hit the ground rolling, tying up several moves before the window even opens. This was similar to Chelsea last season. They had Costa, Fabregas and Luis committed before August. That’s the typical genius from Mourinho.

However, this summer has quite a different look to it. While Chelsea have made a few small moves here and there, they are yet to make a marquee signing. That doesn’t mean however, that’s it’s all bad news for the Blues.

While they haven’t made a huge signing, they have gone about their due diligence in sprinkling their youngsters among the first teams of several strong clubs. This will help with their development. Furthermore, they completed a good bit of business in signing Falcao, who can only benefit the Blues.

Furthermore, the sale of Cech, while controversial, was a necessary reality that everyone had to come to terms with. Which brings us to his replacement.

Asmir Begovic is an absolute masterclass of a signing. The Bosnian shot stopper is one of the top keepers in the Premier League. At 28 years old, he’s only going to get better. As a backup, he’ll be deputy to Courtois for years to come.

These are the type of signings that keep both Chelsea and Mourinho at the top of their game. With Begovic added to the squad, the Blues can use Courtois more sparingly and keep both goalkeepers healthy. They basically have a similar situation to last season. They have two top goalkeepers.
