Congratulations to Frank Lampard who was named BBC London Player of the Year yesterday. It’s not been a good 12 months for Frank who lost his mother earlier in the year. On the footballing front, Frank was also part of the Chelsea team that suffered losses in the Carling Cup and the Champions League final.

Meanwhile Phil Scolari says that he would return to Brazil if Chelsea failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League. This has angered the Cluj players who have taken the tongue in cheek comment as an insult. I think Phil would have to take Malouda and Anelka with him judging from some of the comments I’ve heard recently.

As the January transfer window looms there’s been speculation in the media about Michael Essien’s future. As Michael continues his rehabilitation his Ghanaian team mate and former Portsmouth player, Sulley Muntari, hopes that Essien would join him at Inter. I would imagine that there are many of Michael’s team-mates that would like him to join them at their clubs.

Phil is reported at being delighted with Michael’s medical assessment following his knee surgery in September.  Scolari says “There is good news every day for me about Michael. He recovers more quickly than we had thought. I think he’ll be back sooner than we expected.”

Finally, Manchester United’s Patrice Evra has been banned for four matches and fined £15,000 following last season’s post-match altercation with a grounds man. Manchester United have said that the punishment is “excessive” considering the player only admitted to punching one grounds man in the side of the head and pushing another with his chest.
