Juventus are apparently so keen on signing Alvaro Morata for a second stint in Turin that, according to the London Evening Standard, they have been offered an option to buy Argentina’s powerful goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain.
It’s little secret that Chelsea are in the market for another goalscorer ahead of the new season, with Alvaro Morata failing to hit the expected heights when he arrived for a club-record deal last summer, in excess of £60 million – scoring just 15 goals in 48 appearances, in all competitions.
Alvaro Morata though looks to be a top target for Juventus, having first appeared for the club on-loan from Real Madrid before signing with Chelsea. However, Juventus will need to sell Gonzalo Higuain, who is now 30, with the Argentine earning around £125,000 a-week at the Italian champions – having controversially signed from rivals Napoli in 2016 for a whopping £78 million.
So what would Chelsea be getting if there is some kind of player-for-player transfer deal in this summer’s window? Gonzalo Higuain bagged 23 goals in 50 appearances this past season for Juve, including five in the Champions League.
The striker also boasts a highly-decorated CV, winning two Italian Serie A titles and three Spanish La Liga titles, including a Spanish Cup during his time at Real Madrid. Blues fans will be able to get a much closer look Gonzalo Higuain when the World Cup starts with Argentina selecting the 30-year alongside Sergio Aguero, Paulo Dybala and Lionel Messi.
The report in the London Evening Standard goes on to suggest that Chelsea will only listen to offers for Alvaro Morata if the player himself asks for his departure – otherwise there appears to be little rush to get rid of the 25-year old Spaniard who could come good in his second season in the Premier League.
