In what would be one of the great coups in Chelsea history, the Blues are today being put in the conversation to sign Lionel Messi if he should decide to leave Barcelona this summer.
This coming from a Catalan news source Diario Sport via Football London, who say Chelsea have been exploring the ‘possibility’ of bringing the Argentine to west London for the final years of his career.
Whether or not it is true, Messi should he leave, is favoured to make the switch to Inter Milan, with Juventus and Paris St-Germain also in the running – a move to the Premier League doesn’t appear to be in the reckoning.
Where Chelsea would generate such funds would also be questioned, with Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell seemingly the next big names through the door at Stamford Bridge, with way over £100million being spent on those two deals.
It took him a while, but Lionel Messi scored his first goal against Chelsea in 2018 in a Champions League last 16 home tie. A game which the Blues would go on to lose, with Messi scoring two more in the 2nd leg – Barcelona won 4-1 on aggregate.
