Chelsea were thwarted in their attempt to do the double over Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday – the 2-2 draw with their London rival’s also proved costly to striker Tammy Abraham who has been ruled out with injury.
The worrying news for Chelsea is that the ankle injury sustained by the club’s top goalscorer has no current timescale, with the manager speculating it could be “several weeks”;
I hope he’s not (out for several weeks), but then if he is then yes, we do have the players to cope.”
In quotes via BBC Football, Lampard admitted after the frustrating 2-2 draw with the Gunners that the club are actively seeking reinforcements in the final days of this transfer window;
You can’t say we will definitely sign a striker but we are looking.”
If you don’t score enough goals then you won’t win enough games.”
If Abraham’s injury is long-term then there’s no doubt the Blues will go up a gear in their pursuit of bringing in a proven goalscorer – but time is against them with just nine days to go.
