In what would be quite a bit of business be it in January or next summer – a report in Spanish news source El Gol Digital via talkSPORT claims that Chelsea’s boss Maurizio Sarri has held talks with Nabil Fekir.

The French World Cup winner was seemingly close to a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window only for it to collapse at the last bit of the deal being concluded.

Chelsea are now emerging, according to the report, as the frontrunners along with German champions Bayern Munich. However, if Maurizio Sarri has indeed reached out personally to the player then it will certainly give Blues fans plenty of optimism, especially so with Bayern Munich seemingly going through a transitional phase.

The topic of the talks held with Nabil Fekir apparently consisted of Sarri laying out his Chelsea project to the 25-year old playmaker, currently at Lyon, emphasising that long-term plans are in-place to restore the Blues to the top domestically and in Europe.

It’s also said in the report that Maurizio Sarri has told Nabil Fekir that he will be given assurances that he will be a key first team player in west London, should he opt to leave Lyon for the English capital.

Fekir’s stock has hardly dropped this season, having already scored twice in three outings in the Champions League and netting an additional two in the French Ligue 1. The Frenchman has also thrown in four assists for his teammates in all competitions.

With his contract running down in 2020, Lyon have some important discussions to have with their playmaker, knowing very well he is a man in-demand and that at this point they can get a premium for his transfer.
