Chelsea surprised many pundits after their impressive 1-0 victory away in Amsterdam last time out in the Champions League Group H, and the Blues will be fancied to follow-up on that with another victory at home on Tuesday.
Frank Lampard’s side could move on to nine points with a win over Ajax at home and move them a step closer to not just qualifying for the knockouts, but also topping Group H – an impressive feat for a team not tipped to do all that much this season.
In the pre-match press-conference ahead of Chelsea vs Ajax at Stamford Bridge, manager Frank Lampard was seemingly delighted, via Chelsea FC Official, to announce the return of N’Golo Kante, who will be up for selection;
“N’Golo is huge for us,” Lampard told the assembled media ahead of Tuesday’s huge clash with Ajax. “He is one of the best midfielders in the world and has been for a few seasons, so I won’t complain about the nice problem I have with him fit. I want competition, we are playing every three or four days at the moment and I am going to need all of the midfielders and in different positions as well.”
There’s no such thing as too many good players to choose from, but the headache will be who makes it in to the CFCnet predicted Chelsea line up vs Ajax – will N’Golo Kante come back in, but for who?
If Kante is indeed set to start, the two options that Lampard may go with are either dropping Willian, and putting Mount and Pulisic out wide, with Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho in the middle.
Alternatively, it may be that Mateo Kovacic makes way for Kante in a straight swap – no doubt it would be harsh after the Croat’s impressive performances.
Predicted Chelsea line-up vs Ajax
Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso.
Midfield: Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante.
Attack: Tammy Abraham.
