The big Chelsea confirmed team news ahead of the clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League is that N’Golo Kante is out. The French international’s injury will keep him out for three weeks, after it occurred early on in the defeat to Manchester United last week.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard told gathered media (via Chelsea FC official) ahead of naming his Chelsea line up vs Bayern Munich that Olivier Giroud has given him food for thought after his goal last weekend vs Spurs;
“It is a tight turnaround and the effort put in during a London derby against Tottenham was huge, but the way he played was fantastic, not just the goal but the link he had with Mason Mount and Ross Barkley off the ball, and the work he did which was huge in the way we defended from the front. I know I can rely on him.”
Ross Barkley may be the one to miss out after the impressive victory over Spurs last weekend, with Willian coming in from the start instead. Lampard could still decide late-on to keep the Chelsea line up in-tact.
The other huge question ahead of kick-off is the inclusion of Tammy Abraham in the Chelsea line up vs Bayern Munich – will he or won’t he? Olivier Giroud’s hold up play and presence, as well as his well taken goal at the weekend should see the Frenchman retain his spot up-front. Abraham came on in the second half against Spurs and it could very well play out similarly on Tuesday in the Champions League.
Frank Lampard is likely to set up cautiously and ensure the 2nd leg in Munich is very much alive, and as such may set up with a 3-4-2-1 or 5-4-1 vs Bayern Munich.
