Chelsea face a banana-skin FA Cup fourth round trip to Championship side Hull City on Saturday, with manager Frank Lampard seeking to once again overcome a side in the second-tier, just as they did to Nottingham Forest last time out.
History is very much on the Blues’ side at this stage of the competition – victory would mark the 23rd time in 26 seasons that Chelsea reach the fifth round of the FA Cup, taking them one step closer to lifting the famous trophy for a ninth time.
In the third round win Frank Lampard made made a total of nine changes to the XI and that is once again expected to be the case when Chelsea line up vs Hull on Saturday. On-paper this looks to be a considerably trickier test away from home, so a number of knocks and injuries may force his hand into rotation.
Chelsea aren’t likely to take any risks on players who have injuries, instead it’s expected that the Chelsea line up vs Hull will include the likes of Pedro, Michy Batshuayi, Marcos Alonso and Willy Caballero.
On the matter of injuries, Frank Lampard revealed via Chelsea FC official that Tammy Abraham’s initial diagnose is not as bad as first feared and didn’t rule out the England striker returning the Chelsea XI as soon as next week;
“We were worried about a small fracture or a hairline fracture. He hasn’t got that. We have to see how it develops. It’s not a clear-cut one.”
“He’s not fit for this weekend. Whether he will be fit for Leicester after that I’m still not sure. I haven’t got the news for you. It’s not clear at the moment.”
