Chelsea are back in-action after another international break, ready to continue where they left off and stretch their consecutive winning run to five against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Manager Frank Lampard addressed the Chelsea vs Newcastle pre-match news conference with the news that N’Golo Kante and Andreas Christensen are definitely out of the Premier League clash. Good news for Mateo Kovacic who is in-contention for the game at Stamford Bridge, and Ross Barkley, scorer of two goals for England, is fit to play.
In other injury update news ahead of the return of the Premier League, Lampard confirmed via Chelsea FC Official that Antonio Ruidger is nearing a return;
“Rudiger is training outside with the physios which is a progression for him.”
“He had a tough injury with some stop-start aspects to it which has been unfortunate for everybody but he’s outside now, which is positive. There’s a bit of work to be done for him to get match fitness but it’s really positive for us that he’s back outside.”
Due to the injury to Christensen CFCnet predicts that Frank Lampard will bring back Kurt Zouma in defence, with Fikayo Tomori getting the nod as well as Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Goals from Ross Barkley should see him partner his England teammate Mason Mount in the Chelsea line up vs Newcastle – Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian will play out on the wings. Tammy Abraham is once again set to play up-front, despite Olivier Giroud’s two in two for France.
Predicted Chelsea line-up vs Newcastle
Defence: Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso.
Midfield: Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Ross Barkley, Jorginho, Willian.
Attack: Tammy Abraham.
