Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in the Premier League in what’s shaping up to be the most important London derby in years. There are top four permutations on the line at Stamford Bridge, win and the Blues build up a points gap, lose and they will slip out of the top four for the first time in months.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed in the pre-game presser (via Chelsea FC official) that there’s mixed news on the injury-front, with two ruled out and two doubts ahead of kick-off vs Tottenham;
“N’Golo is not fit.”
“It’s a muscle injury, similar to the one he came off with against Arsenal recently. Hopefully three weeks, something around that.”
“Christian Pulisic is still not fit. I can’t give you an exact date. It’s a difficult injury and we’re working on that.”
“Andreas went to get a mask for a broken nose, which he has now got and has trained with. He’s available for selection, albeit with a mask.”
In regards to the fitness of Tammy Abraham;
“He’s in the squad but I’ll have to make a decision on whether he’s fit.”
The huge news for the predicted Chelsea line up vs Tottenham is that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is back and will be named in the squad, but may not be fit enough to start on Saturday in the Premier League;
“Ruben is in the squad. He’s not fit to start, but great to have him in the squad.”
Tammy Abraham is still not 100% and while he is expected to return it would be appear that Olivier Giroud is the most likely to step-in should the England striker fail to get the nod. Michy Batshuayi failed to show any prowess in-front of goal last Monday and it would be a huge surprise to see the Belgian get the nod in the Chelsea line up vs Tottenham.
The big question is whether Lampard persists with keeping Kepa out of the sticks and maintaining faith with Willy Caballero, who hasn’t exactly shone since coming in as number one.
