Brazilian full back Maicon, has said to be involved in a tug-o-war battle between European Champions Chelsea, and La Liga Champions, Real Madrid.
It had been reported at the weekend that Maicon had chose Madrid and was about to join the Spanish club, but recent reports suggest that Real Madrid may not be as keen as first thought, with his age being the key issue.
TalkSport have reported this morning that Spanish based news paper ‘Sport’, have claimed that Real Madrid have turned their attentions to Manchester City defender, Micah Richards, who Jose Mourinho has been a public admirer of for years now, and even wanted to bring him to the Bridge when he managed there.
Micah Richards, who is 24-years-old, is said to be available for around a similar price to Maicon of about £10 million, and it seems as though Madrid would prefer the younger option.
In the meantime, this could re-ignite the negotiations between Maicon and Chelsea, having been stalled for days now due to Maicon wanting a longer contract length than Chelsea are willing to offer him. If a happy medium can be reached between the two players, then the deal will be done.
Chelsea are now back in the driving seat for the 31-year-old right back, they see him as a cheaper option, allowing them to spend bigger on other players like young starlet, Oscar Dos Santos.
