Speculation continues around Marseille’s 22-year-old highly rated Spanish right back, Cesar Azpilicueta, who is fortunately nick-named ‘Azpi’. It was thought that Chelsea hadn’t made contact as of yet, because of their pursuit of Maicon, but with Azpi’s price dropping by the day, and the Maicon deal drying up due to disagreed personal terms, It is said to be only a matter of days before Chelsea make the official approach.
Cesar had been previously quoted stating he would love a move to the European Champions if it was possible, and although Marseille want to keep hold of him, it is said they could use the money and want to get the highest possible price for him.
French newspaper La Provence have just reported that Chelsea are now strong favourites to sign Azpi. The paper are said to be the most reliable source in France. They say that Cesar Azpilicueta has been the subject of interest from several clubs and is set to be leaving this summer, his contract has two years left to run and Marseille don’t want it to get to the situation where they lose him for a pittance next summer.
La Provence claim that as the summer goes on, Azpi’s price is dropping and Marseille will be keen to push the move on now. It is said Chelsea can land the Spanish starlet for around €8 – € 10 million, which is a steal for a young talent rated as highly as Azpi.
Surely Chelsea will now go in for the younger option over Maicon, since he is around the same price, if not cheaper.
