Chelsea fans may be getting excited about the prospect of seeing Alessandro Florenzi pulling on the Blue next season if a report in Football Italia is to be believed.
The Italian news source states that talks have been ongoing without much success between Florenzi and club Roma for months without much progression and this has opened up the prospect for the 27-year old Italian international to make the switch to west London for next season.
Renowned sport publication La Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia have revealed that Roma, who reached the Champions League semi-finals, are refusing to stump up to the €4 million-a-year contract that the versatile right-back and midfielder is seeking.
Despite picking up a potentially career altering knee ligament injury, Florenzi managed to play his part for Roma in a big-way last season, pulling on the shirt 42 times in all competition – scoring once and assisting four times.
Serie A rivals and champions Juventus have shown serious interest in Alessandro Florenzi, as well as Inter Milan, but Football Italia say that Chelsea have actually approached Roma about the player – whether or not this will turn to anything more may hinge on who the Chelsea manager is through the summer and beyond.
Chelsea will view Alessandro Florenzi as the perfect player within their current system of play, with the 27-year old potentially being competition for Victor Moses on the right-wing back position, while also adding depth to a midfield that looked wanting after the departure of Nemanja Matic last summer.
