Saturday’s win over Cardiff revealed that Alvaro Morata is not in favour under Maurizio Sarri, with the Spaniard not selected and not getting on the field of play in the 4-1 victory.
The Daily Mail via the Metro state that Chelsea may be casting their transfer glances across west London to Premier League rivals Fulham and their recently signed striker Aleksandar Mitrovic – who moved on a permanent deal from Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
Mitrovic drew a blank against Man City on Saturday, but since rejoining the Cottagers in the summer, the 23-year old Serbian international has scored four Premier League goals in just five games – a haul that has got the attention of Chelsea as well as European suitors.
Whether or not there is some kind of clause in his contract is not known, but with Fulham paying £22 million in the summer to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic the club are certainly not likely to let the striker go cheap, if at all in January.
Mitrovic hasn’t just been in great form for his club, but also his country – netting twice in Serbia’s 2-2 draw with Romania in the Nations League last Monday.
Chelsea’s perfect winning start to the season is papering over the lack of firepower from their big money signing Alvaro Morata, and with Olivier Giroud hardly prolific, the big priority in the new year is likely to get another goalscorer through the door – a move for Mitrovic would be surprising but he indeed appears to be on the radar.
Quotes carried in the Metro from hat-trick hero Eden Hazard put praise on Olivier Giroud, after the Frenchman set up a couple of goals in the 4-1 victory;
‘He’s a target man, maybe the best in the world I think.’
‘When he gets the ball he can hold the ball and we can go with him in deep. So for us he is a pleasure to play with.’
