Chelsea travel to, surprise package, Newcastle on Saturday for the televised early kick off. A win would see the Blues move above the Magpies and Tottenham, in to third place, albeit with the latter having the luxury of two games in hand. The omens are reasonable in that the Blues have not lost in five years at St James’s. However Newcastle do have an impressive unbeaten home record this season.

Where do we start with Chelsea’s form? Every time we see a chink of light the door gets firmly shut with another inept performance. Too many top players are not performing and AVB has his work cut out to keep control of a very egotistic dressing room. I have been Fernando Torres’ biggest admirer and have constantly told others to keep faith and he will ‘come good’, however I now think he needs to be rested and made to work on his sharpness again. I think DD is ‘away with the cuckoos’ and should be sold in January, instead of moving on a free in the summer. Play Sturridge through the middle, at least he is scoring!

Ramires remains a class act and should be the second name on the team sheet, after Mata, and Miereles deserves a run of games alongside Lampard. The defensive high line really worries me. Our full backs are encouraged to bomb on but this leaves gaps behind them and the centre halves are being pulled out wide, leaving us exposed in the middle. AVB needs to look at this urgently.

On a positive note, I really do believe that AVB is the right man for the job. His training methods and ideology are excellent. I am really impressed with the transitional phase training and the peripheral vision training, although I’m unsure the players have grasped his concepts yet, but Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Three points on Saturday and the smile will be back on all our faces. Chelsea fans are second to none in times of adversity and I am sure we will all unite behind our young manager and give him the time needed to fulfil his ambitions for the Blues. Come 2:30pm on Saturday we will be singing his praises from the dizzy heights of St James’ Park upper tiers.
Then bring on Manchester City on Monday 12th December and back to back wins will make things really interesting.
