Good afternoon Blues and welcome to Tuesday’s edition of Chelsea Fresh – Where we take a look at the latest Chelsea news, transfer rumours and anything else in between surrounding the Stamford Bridge club.
This edition will not be featuring any mention of a certain Spanish striker who’s currently being charged by the FA – if you want my strong opinions on this, please re-visit yesterdays article on the website.
Instead, we are looking ahead to Wednesday’s visit to Walsall in the Capital One Cup – which will see an opportunity for fringe and young players to feature in a starting line up that could see the likes of Baba Rahman, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Loic Remy, Kenedy, Bertrand Traore and Radamel Falcao.
John Terry will also start the game as confirmed by Jose Mourinho himself, amid talks of his Chelsea future nearing it’s end. At 34-years of age you do have to wonder how long this fairytale can go on, even though I STILL rate him as one of the best defenders in world football. I hope he can stay another season at the club even as backup, but you feel that like most veterans he will want to continue playing regular football and will likely go to America and carry on playing.
But whatever happens, I maintain – this man still has the ability and the quality to be pinnacle for us this season. People mention his pace, he’s NEVER had pace. His ability to read the game makes up for that and he’s certainly not lost that skill. He is also the leader and when he’s not on the pitch, there is a visible missing substance that at the moment I can’t see being replaced.
Finally, a bit of news from the wonderful world of transfer rumours. Chelsea are undoubtedly searching for defensive additions and are scouting a number of options.
The latest being Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid. The 23-year old right full back is being watched by Chelsea, according to reports in Italy. Carvajal is a Spanish International and already competes with Cesar Azpilicueta in the National side. But Chelsea are looking to add competition and more players to their Spanish contingent.
Chelsea are also keeping a close eye of Senegal International striker Moussa Konate, who is also being watched by a number of other Premier League clubs.
The 22-year old powerful striker is playing in the Swiss league for Sion and is rated at £10 million. He’s previously played for Genoa and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
